The atrium is the place where children come to pray and work in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. It is more a children’s retreat environment than a classroom, with an emphasis on experiencing the richness of our shared spiritual life. In the atrium, children are able to nurture their own relationship with the Good Shepherd, and to explore the fruits of this loving relationship.
Volunteers: We need people who want to assist catechists by being in the Atrium or helping to prepare materials. Opportunities for preparing curriculum materials and supporting catechist teams are abundant. The parish pays the training fees for those who feel called to become catechists.
Sacramental Preparation for First Reconciliation & FIRST EUCHARIST
is for families of children who are second grade age or older. Preparation takes place within the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program (above) and through additional gatherings in the winter and spring.
The Children’s Catechumenate is the process through which children from age 7 who are not Catholic may inquire about the Catholic faith and, if desired, receive the sacraments of Baptism/Confirmation/Eucharist.
Volunteers: We need families who would like to be a child’s sponsor and support the child and family through this process. We also need some people who speak both Spanish and English.
Sacramental Preparation/Infant Baptism
Baptism for children from infancy through age 6 is held four times a year. Parents who wish baptism for their children are prepared at an orientation and a retreat.
Volunteers: We need parishioners who feel great compassion for families of young children who strive to exhibit Christian parenting. Baptism team members serve on retreat days and baptism weekends. The minimum time commitment is two weekends a year. We are also looking for people who speak Spanish or English or both.
